Montanova Stables Foundation (MSF)
Equester Solutions is privileged to partner with MSF to help children develop a love and passion for horses while learning to love and care for themselves.
Montanova Stables Foundation is a nonprofit organization that teaches the sport and art of horsemanship to underprivileged children. Through its programs and initiatives, MSF strives to reach low- and middle-income families in Central Virginia, as well as help neglected, emotionally distressed, and learning-challenged children learn self-confidence and self-discipline.
Using classical training methods for grooming, equine care, horse barn safety, and riding, MSF mentors help children create a bond of trust and love with horses in a nurturing, caring environment. Children care for their horses by mucking, feeding, and grooming them, and an MSF mentor guides them in proper safety techniques, as well as how to move around and tack up the horse. Once children master these tasks, they get on the horse and learn to ride.
As children move through the program, they begin to trust people and animals and gain a sense of accomplishment while feeling loved, valued, and safe. After each session, children are encouraged to journal and express their feelings freely.
As secretary of MSF, Tara works closely with the mentors and children and sees firsthand how the program changes their lives. She considers it an honor to play a role in helping horses give children a sense of self-worth and self-respect.
